Jennith Bernstein, PT, DPT, ATP will present. The provision of appropriate power mobility is essential to maximizing an individual’s functional outcome, reducing secondary complications, and improving participation and life satisfaction.  The power mobility assessment requires thorough evaluation of body systems and daily activity limitations, as well as equipment trials and simulations.  This is achieved through objective measures, evidence based practice, and an interdisciplinary team approach.   Power seat function utilization can also play a strong role in enhancing success with power mobility and patient equipment satisfaction.  Following completion of this course, the client will be able to synthesize the evaluation and assessment process to form appropriate, safe, and functional power mobility recommendations.

Learning Outcomes for this course:

The participant will be able to identify four components to include in an evaluation for power mobility and required for documentation of the appropriate device.

The participant will be able to utilize the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health to identify three ways that a power wheelchair base and appropriate power seat functions influence body systems, activities, and participation for a person with a mobility impairment.

The participant will be able to describe three peer reviewed research studies on the application and utilization of power seat functions for a variety of medical diagnoses.
